First you give a bath. Make sure you lather the dog everywhere! Rinse and repeat bath again. |
Put on conditioner wait 5 minutes and rinse until water runs clear. Towel dry any excess water. |
Once this is done use a blow dryer (no or low heat) and dry dog completely. |
As long as your puppy is healthy you can bathe it as frequently as once a week. |
You should use a good quality shampoo for dogs that can be found at your local pet store. Do not use |
human shampoos as the PH is wrong for dogs. It is important to thoroughly dry the puppy, which should be |
done by toweling and brushing while blowing dry with a hair dryer. Your puppy probably |
won't care for this but eventually will learn to accept it. The older dog should |
be combed free of mats before bathing. Never get any water in the ears. |
After bathing you can put a few drops of alcohol in the ears which will keep them dry. Water |
in the ears encourages bacterial growth leading to ear infections. Be careful not to get alcohol |
or soap in the eyes. If this happens, rinse the eyes immediately. You should be sure to let your puppy |
potty before bathing since he should be kept in OUT OF DRAFTS until thoroughly dry. |
